| Improve Your English - Day 1st |
| Before proceeding through this lesson we must understand the important parts of the speech, which is the first step to develop your English conversation skills. |
| |
| 1) Noun :
Any word that names a person, place, animal or thing is called a Noun. |
| For instance : |
- Omnita (name of a person)
- Chandigarh (name of the place)
- Tiger (name of an animal)
- Table (name of a thing)
|
| |
| 2) Pronoun : Any word that stands in the absence of the noun or is used instead of the noun, is called Pronoun. |
| For instance : |
| John is absent, then you would use the word "He" instead of John: Or you don't want to refer any person, place or anything by name, then you would use the words like "He", it, she, they, etc. instead of naming anyone of them. The words that are used in the absence of the Nouns, are called Pronouns. |
| |
| 3) Adjective : It is a word that tells what kind of a person, place, animal or a thing is.
In other words it tells something about the noun. For instance, you want to tell a man something about
the noun, i.e, what kind of person is Mr. Rajiv? Is he an honest man or dishonest person? |
| The adjective is the word that tells about the kind of a person or a thing is, such as honest, dishonest, beautiful, ugly etc.or how much the thing is intended such as - |
(a). I want more money.
(b). She had enough cake. |
| Note : The adjective usually stands before the noun as it is related to the noun. |
| |
| 4) Verb :
The verb is a word that tells about the action being done by the person, place and animal. |
| For instance : |
- He works .
- She swims .
- The nightingale sings .
- Juliet sells mangoes.
The words like works, swims, sings, sells are action words, as they tell the action being done by the noun, hence they are called verbs. |
| |
| 5) Adverbs :
It is a word connected with the verb. It adds to the meaning of the verb and tells us how a thing is done, when it is done or where it is done. |
| For instance : |
i) The sun shines, brightly.
ii) She dances gracefully.
iii) You walk majestically. |
| Now we would proceed towards the tenses of the sentence, but before that we must understand the different forms of verbs. |
| |
| The different forms of the verbs are : |
(a.) 1st form (Also called present tense)
(b.) 2nd form ( Past tense)
(c.) 3rd form (Deep past tense)
|
| For instance : |
| The first form of the verb is " talk", then its 2nd form would be "talked", and the 3rd form would also be "talked". In some cases, the 2nd form of the verb remains similar to the 3rd form. For instance, the 2nd form of the word "work" would be "worked" and the 3rd form would also be "worked". But in many cases, it changes. For example, the 1st form of the word, "Swim" is "Swim", and the 2nd form is "Swam" and the 3rd form is "Swum". |
| Please give a look at the following table to know about some forms of the verbs. |

| Please memorize the above forms of the verbs before learning the most important part of the English language "The Tenses". The tenses play a pivotal role in enhancing the English conversational skills. I remember a girl who used to come to my house to learn English language. She was very poor in English and used to score less than 40% marks in English. Her mother requested me to develop her English conversational skills. I began to teach her the tenses on the 3rd day and was astonished to see that within a day itself her sentences became grammatically correct. Later on she enhanced her English through various conversational sheets, grammar sheets and vocabulary sheets and surprisingly scored 65% in English within 2 months. Her parents thanked me for the same, and I was pleased to see them all happy. |
