Detect and Repair Disk Errors
You can improve the performance of your computer by using Scandisk to detect and repair hard disk errors. The hard disk is the primary device a computer uses to store information.
  1. Move the mouse over Start and then press the left button.

  2. Move the mouse over Programs and then press the left button.

  3. Move the mouse over Accessories and then press the left button.

  4. Move the mouse over System Tools and then press the left button.

  5. Move then mouse over Scandisk and then press the left button.
    • The Scandisk window appears.

  6. Move the mouse over the disk you want to check for errors (example : C:) and then press the left button.

  7. Move the mouse over the type of test you want to perform and then press the left button.
    • Standard : Checks files and folders for errors.
    • Thorough : Check files, folders and the disk surface for errors.

  8. If you want Windows to automatically repair any disk errors it finds, move the mouse over this option and then press the left button.

     
  9. To start the check, move the mouse over Start and then press the left button.
    • Bottom area displays the progress of the check.
    • The Scandisk results dialog box appears when the check is complete. The dialog box displays information about the disk.

  10. When you finish viewing the information, move the mouse over Close and then press the left button.

  11. To close the Scandisk window, move the mouse over Close and then press the left button.
