| Format a Floppy Disk |
| You must format a floppy disk before you can use the disk to store information. |
| Floppy disks you buy at computer stores are usually formatted. You may want to later format a disk again to erase the information it contains and prepare the disk for storing new information. |
- Insert the floppy disk you want to format into a drive.
- Move the mouse over My Computer and then quickly press the left button twice.
- The My Computer window appears.
- Move the mouse over the drive containing the floppy disk you want to format (example: A:) and then press the left button.
- Move the mouse over File and then press the left button.
- Move the mouse over Format and then press the left button.
- The Format dialog box appears.
- Move the mouse over the type of format you want to perform and then press the left button.
- Quick (erase) : Remove all files but does not scan the disk for damaged areas.
- Full : Removes all files and scans the disk for damaged areas.
- To specify how much information the floppy disk can store, move the mouse over this area and then press the left button.
- Move the mouse over the storage capacity of the floppy disk and then press the left button.
- Please Note : Before formatting a floppy disk, make sure the disk does not contain information you may need. Formatting a floppy disk will permanently remove all the information on the disk.
- To start formatting the floppy disk, move the mouse over Start and then press the left button.
- Bottom area displays the progress of the format.
- The Format results dialog box appears when the format is complete. The dialog box displays information about the formatted disk.
- When you finish viewing the information, move the mouse over Close and then press the left button.
- To close the Format dialog box, move the mouse over Close and then press the left button.
